3 Reasons To Choose Dental Implants Over Dentures

Are your teeth less than optimal? Have you been considering discussing false teeth options with your dentist? Although dentures are a viable option for false teeth for many people, this doesn't mean that they are the right option for you and your mouth. Instead, you should consider talking with your dentist about getting dental implants. There are many advantages of getting implants over having traditional dentures, some of which include:

Longer lasting: When your teeth are removed, your body soon starts to assume that the bones beneath your gums are no longer needed and so they start to dissolve and to change shape. In many cases, it's not a very drastic change at first but it does still mean that you'll have to have your dentures re-lined every five years or so. Failure to do this could result in mouth sores or in being unable to use your dentures at all. When you get dental implants, on the other hand, your teeth will clip onto small pegs that have been implanted in your gums. This keeps them secure and prevents them from falling out when you talk or eat. So long as they are cared for properly, these teeth may last longer than most natural teeth.

Better value: Although dentures are initially relatively inexpensive, their costs will add up over time. Not only do you need to consider the cost of having your dentures relined every few years, you also need to think about how much you'll be paying for things like pastes or creams to hold your dentures in place. Over time, these little costs can add up to big expenses. Because you won't need to have your dental implants remade or relined every few years and you don't need to use pastes or creams to hold them in place, their cost tends to be lower in the long run.

More natural look: Because dental implants are fixed to your mouth via surgically added posts, they function very similarly to how your natural teeth work. This means that, unlike dentures, you should be able to do things like bite apples or chew nuts without having to worry about your teeth falling out in front of everyone. And, while you should try to avoid sleeping with any kind of artificial teeth in your mouth, with implants you won't have to worry about them becoming dislodged and causing you to gag or choke if you should happen to doze off with them in place every so often.
