If you have areas on your teeth that appear discolored, you may wonder if there are steps you can take to remove staining safely and effectively. Here are a few ways you can remove stains from your teeth, leaving you with a renewed smile to enjoy.

Use Fruit To Clean

There are a few fruits you can use to help remove surface staining for the teeth. Break a strawberry up into pieces and use a fork to turn it into a soft pulpy consistency. Apply this directly to the fronts of your teeth. You may need to hold your head back as you allow the malic acid in the strawberry's composition seep onto your teeth. Keep in place for a few minutes and spit out. Do this procedure a few times a week to lessen the appearance of staining. The insides of banana and orange peels can also be used to reduce staining. Simply rub the interior of the peel directly to the teeth to rub away acid staining.

Make A Paste

Try making a whitening paste from equal portions of baking soda and water. Add more water if the paste seems too dry, or more baking soda if it is too runny. When you have your desired consistency, place the paste on your toothbrush and use it as you would a toothpaste. Limit your brushing to about a minute. Baking soda will strip enamel if left in place too long so it is import to rinse it out of your mouth thoroughly when you are done.

Rinse Your Mouth

Use hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash to rinse bacteria from your mouth. Hydrogen peroxide also has whitening capabilities that will take away surface stains. Make sure to rinse your mouth well after using it so you can avoid a bitter taste.

Try A Whitening Product

Commercial whitening products can remove stains from teeth with just a few applications. There are a variety of methods to try including toothpaste, gel, or strips. While these products work well in removing stains, they need to be limited so the enamel surface of the teeth is not stripped too much. This would cause sensitivity of the teeth.

See Your Dentist

Many people find going to the dentist to have a whitening procedure done instead will help save the teeth from unnecessary damage from harsh chemicals. A dentist (such as Roy B. Guster DDS PC) can administer a bleaching procedure in the office to help brighten teeth. Other methods of whitening include placing white fillings or veneers over severely stained teeth.
