If you happen to have teeth that do not feel as if they are as white as you would like them to be, there are several methods you can use in brightening them to a lighter level. Many people will try whitening their teeth to make them cosmetically nicer in appearance. Some whitening methods can be done in the comfort of your own home. Here are some teeth whitening tricks you can give a try to see if they will help you feel more comfortable about your smile.

Kitchen Remedies

Some teeth whitening methods can be found right inside your kitchen. Baking soda is one way to help whiten teeth. It has properties that remove surface stains and can be a great help in getting the color you are trying to achieve. To use baking soda as a teeth whitener, place a tablespoon of it inside a small bowl and add a quarter cup of water. Mix well until the material has the consistency of toothpaste.

Place some of the mixture on your toothbrush and brush it onto your teeth. Do not brush for more than one minute. Rinse it out of your mouth after you have finished brushing. This treatment should only be done once a week because it is so strong-acting. It can rub about the enamel layer from your teeth if you do it more frequently.

Another kitchen teeth whitening method is the use of a few different fruits. Strawberries can remove staining from the teeth. Cut the stem off of a strawberry and put the berry inside a bowl. Use a fork to mash it into a pulp and place it directly on the affected areas of your teeth. Leave it in place for about five minutes and then spit it out and rinse. This can be done a few times a week to help lighten the stains on your teeth over time. Bananas work similarly. Use the inside of a banana peel to rub directly on your teeth, removing stains in the process.

Other Remedies

Try to use hydrogen peroxide to remove stains from your teeth. Use it in the same way you would use a regular mouthwash. There are no ill effects from using hydrogen peroxide, as long as you spit it out and rinse your mouth after use.

Whitening toothpastes, gels, and strips can be given a try to brighten your teeth. These are all found in your local pharmacy or home goods store. When using these products, limit the frequency of use as they all can take away enamel from your teeth. They do have promising results when used properly.

If you want more permanent results, talk to your family dentist about having a teeth whitening session. There are bleaching methods that will take away all staining from your teeth, leaving you with the whitest smile possible. This is a safe alternative to home remedies, and will leave you with long-lasting results. (For more information, contact Edgewood Dental)
